To All Our Good Friends at the Lincoln Bar / Riverside Little League Lobster Raffle,
For the last several years, many of the dedicated volunteers of the Riverside Little League have volunteered their time on Saturdays to work the raffle in order to raise money for the kids of the Riverside Little League. During that time I’ve worked side by side with Luce, Deb, Fred, Jack, Big Bill, and many others for the sole purpose of enhancing the lives of kids in the community through our Little League organization. In that regard we’ve been very successful having raised tens of thousands of dollars for our kids and their families; however, this would not have been possible without the extraordinary generosity and loyalty of all of you. Over the last few years we’ve very much looked forward to the beginning of every raffle season so we could get together, once again, with all of you who we’ve come to know as friends. Every penny, 100% of the proceeds went directly to benefit the kids of the Riverside Little League. Your participation in the raffle contributed greatly to allowing us to have among the lowest registration fees of any youth sports organization anywhere. Your generosity also allowed us to buy much needed sports equipment for our kids, to keep our ball fields maintained, and most importantly, to never turn away a kid or a family due to affordability. For that, we will be forever grateful to you.
As the saying goes, all good things must end. During the first raffle of the season, back on October 12th, ownership informed us that our status would be changing. The kids of the Riverside Little League would no longer be the beneficiaries of 100% of the proceeds of the raffle and that some of the proceeds would be going to pay for other expenses. Even though I knew that this would be a financial setback for our organization, I was not willing to sacrifice the integrity of our dedicated volunteers for the sake of expediency. I explained to ownership that the new conditions presented would be unacceptable, and this was the reason for our sudden and unexpected departure from the Lincoln. We had been looking forward to getting together with all our friends for another successful raffle season. I guess it was not meant to be.
As we’re about to partner with the good people at The Comedy Connection in East Providence, beginning next Saturday at noon, November 16th, to have a larger venue and an improved raffle with more prizes and even entertainment from time to time, we could not let this moment pass without saying thank you to all our friends who were so generous to us over the last several years. We’ll miss Pooh Bear, Norm, Russell (RCR) and family, Donnie, Kenny, Scott, Steve, Kathy, Bob (Tap Tap), and all those old friends who we looked forward to being with this season. I would have liked to have said this directly to all of you in person if circumstances had allowed but that was not the case.
From the bottom of our collective hearts, please accept our sincere thanks for your unconditional generosity and friendship. Good luck to you and your families and know that we’ll miss you. Thanks always.

This scholarship is in memory of Alfred, “Big Al” Santie,
who coached in Riverside Little League for 31 years, from
1977 until 2007. He sponsored a team called “Big Al’s” for
approximately 25 years. Although Big Al never married and
had no children of his own, he was the father to more kids
than can ever be imagined. Big Al not only coached
for all those years in Riverside Little League, he also
coached for Riverside Raider’s Youth Football and St.
Brendan’s CYO Basketball during this same time period.
His entire adult life was dedicated to the youth of Riverside.
It is in the memory of this great individual that we are
awarding these scholarships.
